ATLANTA — If your group chat is full of eclipse memes this morning, pause before you point a phone at the sun.

CBS News, updating Aug. 11, reports that the only total solar eclipse of 2026 crosses part of the Northern Hemisphere on Wednesday, Aug. 12. The path of totality — the narrow track where the moon fully covers the sun — runs through sparsely populated polar geography and a short list of inhabited highlights: portions of northern Greenland, western Iceland, and northern Spain. It is not a Georgia event.

ATLANTA — If you needed a reason to drive past the perimeter after dark next week, the sky is providing one.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Perseid guide, published for Georgia readers this week, pegs the annual shower’s peak to the nights of Aug. 12–13. The American Meteor Society lists the broader Perseid window from mid-July through Aug. 24, but peak is when rates climb and casual observers have the best shot. A new moon on Aug. 12 is the bonus: darker skies without a bright lunar washout.
