ALPHARETTA — A long night at City Hall produced a major land-use decision for North Fulton.
According to WSB-TV Channel 2 (Courtney Martinez and Bryan Mims, dated Aug. 25) and Atlanta News First, the Alpharetta City Council voted 4-3 just before 1 a.m. Tuesday to approve redevelopment plans for North Point Mall after hours of debate and public comment.
What the package is aiming for
Both outlets describe a mixed-use entertainment district on the former mall site. WSB says Atlanta-based developer Jamestown LP wants apartments, a hotel, restaurants, retail, a theater, and a hockey complex. Atlanta News First says the centerpiece would be a 20,000-seat arena designed to host a National Hockey League franchise, with a major part of the deal hinging on the NHL committing to bring a team to Alpharetta by 2031.
ANF identifies the development team as Jamestown, alongside New York Life and The Machete Group. WSB notes Jamestown is also known for work on Ponce City Market.

WSB reports the planning commission attached dozens of conditions before the council vote moved forward. Among them: an NHL franchise must be awarded to the site before people can occupy apartments there.
City Administrator Chris Lagerbloom, speaking to WSB’s Bryan Mims, said the mall has “sort of run its course” and is prime for redevelopment “whether it’s this opportunity or a different opportunity.” Asked about NHL status, Lagerbloom said he could not comment yet.
WSB also notes another development team is trying to bring pro hockey about six miles up the road in Forsyth County.
