Ozzie Albies lined a two-out single to right field in the bottom of the 11th inning Sunday, scoring Michael Harris II from second base to give the Atlanta Braves a 5-3 walk-off win over the New York Mets at Truist Park.
The win gave the Braves two of three in the series and improved their record to 50-42 on the season. The Mets fell to 40-55.
“Just a great win,” Albies said. “We’ve been grinding. To come back like that says a lot about this team.”
The game was tied 3-3 after nine innings. The Mets had erased a 3-1 Atlanta lead with two runs in the top of the ninth against closer Raisel Iglesias, who has now blown two of his last three save opportunities.
In the 11th, with Harris starting the inning on second base as the automatic runner, Albies worked the count against Mets reliever Brooks Raley before lining his single to right, allowing Harris to score easily from second.
Chris Sale started for Atlanta and allowed one run on four hits over seven innings, striking out 10. It was Sale’s third double-digit strikeout game of the season and lowered his ERA to 2.20.
“Chris was outstanding,” Braves manager Walt Weiss said. “He gave us a chance to win. The guys picked him up.”
The Braves are off Monday before opening a three-game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m. at Truist Park.
