Atlanta Falcons rookies are scheduled to report to training camp at IBM Performance Field in Flowery Branch on Friday, July 24, with veterans arriving Tuesday, July 28. The team’s first official practice will be held Wednesday, July 29, marking the start of a three-week stretch that includes 12 open practices and a pair of joint sessions with the Indianapolis Colts.

Head coach Kevin Stefanski, entering his first season in Atlanta, will install a new offensive system and oversee an open quarterback competition between Michael Penix Jr. and Tua Tagovailoa. The Falcons acquired Tagovailoa in a March trade after Penix went 8-9 as a rookie starter in 2025.

Open practice schedule

The Falcons will hold 12 open practices over a three-week stretch, beginning Friday, July 31, and ending Thursday, August 20. The first open practice is reserved for season ticket members only, with the second (Saturday, August 1) already sold out.

The final two open practice dates will be joint sessions with the Indianapolis Colts in the lead-up to the team’s preseason opener against the Colts on Saturday, August 22.

The team’s training-camp roster will include a heavy dose of new faces after an offseason overhaul that added Tagovailoa, defensive end Dante Fowler Jr., and multiple offensive linemen via free agency. Stefanski has indicated that the open quarterback competition will run through the preseason.

What to watch

The biggest storylines out of camp will be the Tagovailoa-Penix competition, the development of rookie defensive linemen from the April draft class, and the fit of new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith’s scheme around the existing backfield of Bijan Robinson and Tyler Allgeier.

The Falcons open the regular season at home against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, September 13.
