Seven metro museums free this weekend with Bank of America Museums on Us

ATLANTA — Culture on a budget gets easier this weekend: seven metro Atlanta museums are offering free general admission through Bank of America’s Museums on Us program.

According to Atlanta News First’s July 29 guide, visitors simply present a photo ID and a Bank of America, Merrill, or Bank of America Private Bank card at admission. The first full weekend of August is a standard Museums on Us window; always confirm hours and any special-exhibition upcharges with each venue before you go.

Atlanta’s late-July calendar is stacked with ways to get out and about this weekend, from the Atlanta Ice Cream & Wellness Festival in Piedmont Park and Back-to-School Cobb at The Battery Atlanta to a Daniel Caesar concert at State Farm Arena and a Daniel Tiger Kids Club Day at Truist Park before the Braves-Padres series finale.

1. Atlanta Ice Cream & Wellness Festival — Saturday, July 25, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Atlanta Ice Cream & Wellness Festival returns to Piedmont Park on Saturday with a full slate of local creamery booths, family yoga sessions, a wellness village, and live DJ sets. Entry to the festival grounds is free, with tasting packages available for purchase on-site. The festival is pet-friendly and runs rain or shine.

Buckhead's Swan House reopens Saturday with new civil rights exhibition

The Swan House at the Atlanta History Center reopens Saturday after a three-month renovation, with a new permanent exhibition exploring the building’s connections to Atlanta’s civil rights history.

The 1928 Philip Trammell Shutze-designed mansion, which sits on the history center’s Buckhead campus, was closed to the public in April while crews restored the exterior and updated the interior exhibits.

The new exhibition, titled “Swan House: A More Complete Story,” adds context about the enslaved people who built and worked in the home before the Civil War, as well as the family’s role in shaping post-war Atlanta.

Atlanta History Center opens new Olympic Games photography exhibition

The Atlanta History Center on Wednesday opened a new photography exhibition featuring 75 rarely seen images from the 1996 Summer Olympics.

The exhibition, “Atlanta ‘96: A Summer Remembered,” runs through October 31 in the center’s DuBose Family Gallery. Many of the photographs were taken by AJC photographers and have never been publicly displayed.

“This was the moment Atlanta announced itself to the world,” said Atlanta History Center president Sheffield Hale. “We wanted to capture the joy, the spectacle, and the resilience of that summer.”
