NEW YORK — The Atlanta Braves split a makeup doubleheader at Citi Field on Wednesday, dropping the afternoon game 3–2 before Chris Sale delivered a 1–0 shutout gem in the nightcap that salvaged the series finale after Tuesday’s rain postponement.

According to ESPN’s Game 2 box and recap framing, Sale limited the Mets to two hits over six innings and struck out nine. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Chad Bishop reported that Sale needed only one run of support and continued a Cy Young–caliber stretch, with manager Walt Weiss and Sale both stressing the value of leaving New York with a win after the earlier loss.

NEW YORK — Tuesday’s Atlanta Braves–New York Mets game at Citi Field was postponed because of heavy rain in the forecast and will be made up as a split doubleheader Wednesday, Major League Baseball’s club sites confirmed.

According to MLB.com’s Mets beat report by Anthony DiComo, the makeup games are scheduled for 1:10 p.m. and 7:10 p.m. ET. Little rain fell over Queens on Tuesday morning, but thunderstorms were expected to intensify by early evening. The National Weather Service forecast cited in that report called for up to two inches of rain with winds around 15 mph.
