ATLANTA — Monday’s Perimeter commute just got a little less hostile than the weekend work zone promised.

Atlanta News First reported that the Georgia Department of Transportation reopened the stretch of I-285 closed for construction this weekend earlier than scheduled. Crews had shut all lanes in both directions between South Atlanta Road and Paces Ferry Road. The closure window had been set to run through 5 a.m. Monday; the roadway reopened Sunday night instead.

MARTA bus riders in southwest Fulton County should expect continued delays of up to 45 minutes through Monday morning as planned I-285 lane and ramp closures continue.

The closures, which began Friday night for bridge and pavement work on the southwest stretch of the Perimeter, are scheduled to wrap up at 5 a.m. Monday.

Routes 178 (Mt. Zion Road), 184 (Camp Creek), 191 (Riverdale/ATL International Terminal) and 194 (Conley Road/Mount Zion) are the most directly affected. MARTA Reach Zone 304 service is also experiencing longer wait times.

MARTA is warning of significant bus and paratransit delays in southwest Fulton County beginning Friday night through Monday morning due to planned lane and ramp closures on I-285.

The closures begin at 9 p.m. Friday and run through 5 a.m. Monday. Georgia DOT crews will be doing bridge and pavement work on the southwest stretch of the Perimeter.
