After a Yankees road series that ended with a 10-inning salvage win in the Bronx, the Atlanta Braves were scheduled home against the New York Mets beginning Monday, Aug. 10, at Truist Park — a promotion-friendly stretch on the club’s published home schedule and the easiest “something to do with a crowd” option if you already follow the team. ATLANTA — Monday’s Perimeter commute just got a little less hostile than the weekend work zone promised.

Atlanta News First reported that the Georgia Department of Transportation reopened the stretch of I-285 closed for construction this weekend earlier than scheduled. Crews had shut all lanes in both directions between South Atlanta Road and Paces Ferry Road. The closure window had been set to run through 5 a.m. Monday; the roadway reopened Sunday night instead.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” is packing the only 70mm IMAX screen in Georgia — Regal Mall of Georgia in Buford — hard enough that the theater has run 24-hour operations Thursday through Monday since the film’s late-July U.S. release. FOX 5 Atlanta’s Aug. 7–9 things-to-do list, meanwhile, flags anniversary parties, free concerts, and family festivals still live across the weekend.

National Weather Service Peachtree City’s Area Forecast Discussion issued 6:39 a.m. EDT Monday (Aug. 3) kept the short-term theme simple: diurnally enhanced storm chances continue through the end of the week, with temperatures starting slightly cooler than midsummer normals before climbing back toward the mid-90s later in the period. The short-term section warned that slow storm motion and leftover moisture could produce locally heavy rainfall and a patchy flash-flood risk, while any stronger cells might gust 30 to 50 mph even if overall instability stays limited.

Georgia District 13 special election is Tuesday: What voters need to know

METRO ATLANTA, Ga. — Voters in Georgia’s 13th Congressional District will choose a new representative Tuesday to complete the late U.S. Rep. David Scott’s term.

The July 28 special election applies to voters in Rockdale County and portions of Clayton, DeKalb, Gwinnett, Henry and Newton counties. The winner will serve through the end of 2026.

This contest is separate from the regular November election for the congressional term that begins in 2027.

Heat Advisory in effect across metro Atlanta Tuesday, heat index up to 108 degrees expected by afternoon

The National Weather Service office in Peachtree City issued a Heat Advisory covering most of metro Atlanta and eastern Georgia from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with afternoon heat index values forecast between 105 and 108 degrees.

The advisory comes after a Monday that already pushed heat index readings to 100-plus across north Georgia. Tuesday’s advisory covers Fulton, DeKalb, Cobb, Gwinnett, Clayton, Henry, Fayette, Rockdale, Douglas, Cherokee, Forsyth, Hall, and Paulding counties, along with most of east-central Georgia east of I-20.
