Inside one of Buckhead's most famous mansions: A look inside the Sofi house

From the street, the Sofi house on Peachtree Road looks like every other gated Buckhead estate: a wall of ivy, a circle driveway, a porte-cochère that hints at what lies beyond.

But step inside, and you realize why this house has been featured in three movies, two television series, and a half-dozen architectural magazines.

The 14,000-square-foot home was built in 1929 by a cotton magnate who wanted a country estate close enough to downtown to be convenient. His great-granddaughter, who asked not to be named for privacy reasons, gave WACN 21 a rare tour on a recent Sunday morning.

Buckhead Heritage to host walking tour of historic Peachtree Road estates

Buckhead Heritage will host a guided walking tour of four historic estates along Peachtree Road on Saturday, including two properties that are not usually open to the public.

The tour, which runs from 9 a.m. to noon, will cover roughly 1.5 miles of Peachtree Road between Pharr Road and West Paces Ferry Road. Stops include the L.P. Grant mansion, the F. Pharcellus Shaw house, the C. Howard Candler estate, and a fourth property that Buckhead Heritage is keeping under wraps until the day of the tour.

Buckhead Heritage partners on $100,000 renovation of 115-year-old E. Rivers Lodge

Buckhead Heritage announced Monday a $100,000 partnership to renovate the E. Rivers Lodge, a 115-year-old wooden structure along Peachtree Creek that has long been hidden behind a chain-link fence and overgrown vegetation.

The lodge, built in 1911 by one of Buckhead’s founding families, is one of the oldest standing structures in the neighborhood. It has been used in recent decades for storage and has fallen into disrepair, with a sagging porch, rotting floorboards and water damage throughout.

Buckhead's E. Rivers Lodge renovation project kicks off with public tour

Buckhead Heritage hosted a public tour of the 115-year-old E. Rivers Lodge on Monday morning to mark the start of a $100,000 renovation project that will restore the wooden structure for community use.

About 40 residents attended the tour, which was led by Buckhead Heritage president Wright Mitchell. The group walked the lodge’s sagging porch, examined the original timber framing, and learned about the building’s history as one of Buckhead’s oldest standing structures.
