Acuña Jr. and Ha-Seong Kim begin rehab assignments in North Port

While the rest of the Atlanta Braves scattered to All-Star festivities in Philadelphia, Ronald Acuña Jr. and Ha-Seong Kim reported to the opposite kind of baseball on Monday: a Minor League rehab assignment with the FCL Braves in North Port, Florida.

The Braves confirmed the assignments before first pitch. Acuña is working back from a left hamstring strain that has kept him out since June 9; Kim is attempting to find his timing after offseason surgery on his right middle finger.

Right-hander AJ Smith-Shawver, the Atlanta Braves’ former top pitching prospect, began a rehabilitation assignment at Single-A Augusta on Wednesday as he works his way back from Tommy John surgery.

Smith-Shawver, 23, was a seventh-round pick in the 2021 MLB Draft and made his major league debut in 2023 at age 20. He struggled with injuries early in his career, missing two months in 2024 with an oblique strain, and underwent Tommy John surgery last May.
